Empire Of The Sea - The Voyage 2012

"Empire of the Sea, of Wilkes-Barre, PA, was formed in 2010 when a simple jam session between friends, Bill Check and Michael Flaherty, turned into two songs that would eventually be featured on their nautically-themed Fathoms LP. The idea behind songs such as “Ramius” and “The Cape,” featured on this LP, came from Flaherty’s interest in naval history, film, and literature. Drummer and long-time friend, Mike Tyahur, joined Empire during the recording process and provided strong creative input as well as the rhythmic energy needed for live performances. Filling out this quartet is the bass player and Mike’s twin brother, Patrick Flaherty, who has been largely responsible for Empire’s recent recognition and performance schedules.

The concepts that drive Empire’s sound on both Fathoms and Skywatchers, invoke powerful imagery through the melodic and ambient content. This content is influenced by bands such as: Thrice, This Will Destroy You, Isis, Russian Circles, Explosions in the Sky, Hammock, Caspian, Pelican, O'Brother, Minus the Bear, Circa Survive, As Tall As Lions, and Moving Mountains." -empire of the sea.
